Pending Applications

HR Metric - Pending Applications

What (Definition)

Acquiring new recruiters is part of the company’s growing process. Identifying the need for fresh employees will lead to the opening of certain positions. As a company, we will receive many job applications from the day the vacancy is advertised.

Not all the applications are going to go through. Applications that meet the job role requirements will be accepted and included in a screening process; some applications will be rejected due to their unsuitability. Then some applications do not fall into any of the categories. Those will be set aside as pending applications.

Why (Benefits)

The Human Resources department prepares operational metrics that provide insight into the pending application status of the company. It provides the following details and helps to make better decisions in the recruitment process.

  • Track any inefficient steps in the recruitment process by assessing the number of applications that are pending and whether the HR department has not finalized any decisions.

  • Analyzing the pending applications for each open position can give a clear picture of the volume of the active pipeline of candidates.

  • The company can consider promising applicants from the pending list for future job roles. It can be time-saving and cost-effective.

  • Creating a pending list makes sure that the applications are reviewed orderly, and it reduces the risk of losing a potential candidate.

  • Maintaining the pending list will help the company stay in line with employment regulations and ensure the hiring process is conducted without any discrimination.

How (Calculation?)

Calculating the pending applications is beneficial to the company as it provides a clear understanding of how to plan and allocate its resources, such as time, money, and labor, effectively.

  • Pending applications: number of applications that haven’t gone through the recruitment process due to various reasons that is the ones with no Status in the Application status being filled.

Application Table with Statuses

According to the above table, the status of of four candidates is still pending. Hence, the pending applications = 4

Tracking the pending list and getting back to the candidates even if they have been out of the recruitment process will create a positive impression on the company. This will boost the candidate’s experience with the company and encourage future interactions.
